Physical Geography and Landscape Science
About the program
The field «Physical Geography and Landscape Science» allows you to master the theoretical and methodological principles of landscape science, as well as methods for studying the structure, genesis, dynamics, functioning, and evolution of landscapes. Graduates have knowledge of the regional features of landscapes in Russia and neighboring countries, methods of comparative analysis of natural and anthropogenic processes, principles of environmental management and landscape protection in different natural zones including mountainous and lowland regions. Bachelors can apply methods of landscape planning, engineering geography, design protected natural areas, and select environmental production technologies. Graduates have practical skills in landscape mapping and indication, chemical-analytical, instrumental, geoinformation, aerospace, statistical, and field research methods.
Graduates of the profile are able to solve problems corresponding to research, design and production (design and survey), expert-analytical and organizational-managerial types of tasks of professional activity.
Specialized professional competencies of graduates of the profile «Physical Geography and Landscape Science»
Student is proficient in theoretical, methodological, and practical techniques for studying the structure, dynamics, functioning, evolution of the geographical landscape (SPK-1).
He/she is able to apply field, instrumental, geochemical, geophysical, geoinformation, aerospace, statistical research methods to solve professional problems (SPK-2).
Student knows the basic patterns of structure, functioning and management techniques for various types of natural-anthropogenic landscapes and is able to use engineering-geographical and landscape-planning skills to solve applied professional problems (SPK-3).
He/she is proficient in methods of identifying, diagnosing, indicating natural-territorial complexes and their components, methods of landscape and landscape-applied mapping (SPK-4).
